We all love to dream, scheme and talk about calling or destiny. We were made to do so. We were wired that way. We truly were made for something greater than just ourselves. So when it comes to imagining what we could do with our lives… the greatest we could achieve… according to the American dream, the results are endless. We can be who we want to be.
But what happens when God interrupts that dream? What happens when the eternal God steps into our temporary situation and “messes” up our plans with His own plan for our lives?
What do we do when God says to ________? Do we stay in our nice, comfy dream? Or do we lay it all down and simply say “yes”?
When He calls us to follow Him, how do we respond?
Jesus lets us know the proper response:
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew – 9:24-25
Simply put: He wants our yes. But not just our head nod in agreement yes. He wants the yes from us that lays down all other yesses (is that a word?). He wants the yes from us that trumps our own desires. He wants the yes from us that when said will cost everything to back it up.
Most recently the LORD called us to do something. Something that we never, ever thought would be in our “dream world”. We have two kids. A dog. A house. We started a new church a few years back. We had it all and we thought we were done.
But God wasn’t done.
He wasn’t done asking and moving.
He’s called us now to adopt twins. And we said yes.
I’ll be honest, I was hesitant at first. Sat on it for 10 days before even telling Hannah. But as soon as I did, we both knew it was right.
So the question is, when God says to _________, what do you say in return?
